At least 13 Islamic State (IS) were killed when Afghan air force launched airstrikes that targeted militants hideouts in the country’s eastern province Nangarhar, the Defense Ministry said on Monday.
Following an intelligence lead, the Afghan air force warplane struck an IS militant’s hideout in Lagharjoy locality, Kot district of Nangarhar on Sunday.
During the raid 13 IS militants were killed, five injured and several rounds of weapons and ammunition destroyed, the ministry said in a statement.
One IS local commander identified as Mira Jan was among the militants killed.
The airstrikes conducted were continuation of a military operation in Kot ained at elimination of both local and foreign IS militants from the troubled district.
