Ethiopian security forces managed to seize 116 guns and thousands of ammunition in Amhara regional state smuggled from South Sudan.
The three day operation involved both the region’s security forces and the Ethiopian army.
Three lorry drivers have been arrested in connection to the weapon smuggling operation.
Ethiopia and South Sudan have a security cooperation agreements in place, including an arrangement to stop hosting armed opposition groups in their respective countries.
In 2016, Sudan and Ethiopia meet in Addis Ababa and signed a memorandum of understanding providing to enhance joint security and military cooperation between the two neighbouring countries to fight terrorism.
