Qoryooleey district administration in Lower Shabelle region carried an operation and arrested a number of being suspected to be members of the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab.
The military operation was targeting Al-Shabaab fighters in the town and surrounding areas said to harbour them
According to Qoryoley District Commissioner Abdi Ahmed Ali as referenced by open sources in Somalia, the operations followed intelligence tip-off of the militants’ cells terrorizing even Somali populous in the Qoryoley town demanding for money and food supplies.
The deputy security chief and the governor of Qoryoley district Abdi Ahmed Ali noted that the military operations will continue in the district and the surrounding areas until the removal of Al-Shabaab jihadists from the region.
