U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) has stepped up its airstrikes in Somalia. The latest airstrikes on March 2. Killed one Al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist and injured two others.
The two air raids took place near Qunyo Barrow, Somalia. No civilians were killed or injured in the attack.
AFRICOM and AMISOM continue to support the weak Somali National Army (SNA) in combating Al-Shabaab’s brutal ambitions of killing Somali citizens besides ousting the Federal Government of Somalia.
Striking Al-Shabaab leadership, militants, their bases and areas of operations is one of the ways U.S. and other allied partners continue to pressure the terror network.
Al-Shabaab militant group has expressed its primary desire is to conduct attacks not just in East Africa, but against Americans and U.S. interests across the world. International efforts and the persistent pressure placed on Al-Shabaab helps contain the group’s broader ambitions and desire to conduct attacks beyond Somali borders.
The strikes are the 15th airstrike operation conducted against Al-Shabaab in Somalia so far this year. Nine of the strikes took place in February.
The 15 strikes have collectively killed at least 13 Al-Shabaab terrorists and wounded several others, in addition to damaging or destroying multiple terrorist operating and logistics bases.
