The U.S. military’s Africa Command (AFRICOM) has released a statement saying that it conducted an airstrike in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia on the afternoon of April 5 which killed three al Shabaab terrorists.
The airstrike was conducted near Jilib one of the most populous in southern Somalia, and it decimated one vehicle mounted with a heavy machine gun as well as three al Shabaab fighters traveling in the vehicle.
The strike comes after the terror organization attempted to overrun an AMISOM-UPDF military camp in Bulo Marer district. The strike is the latest in an increasing number of U.S. airstrikes against al-Shabaab and Abnaa ul-Calipha, Islamic State’s affiliate in Somalia in recent months. So far in 2018, AFRICOM has issued press releases about eight strikes targeting al-Shabaab.
