United States has delivered 21 vehicles worth more than $1 million to the Moroccan Special Forces. According to the US Africa Military Command, the vehicles were handed over to the Moroccan Forces Armées Royale Special Operations Company (MSOF) on 6 May.
This is a culmination of U.S.-Morocco defense cooperation. U.S. for about three years has been training and equipping MSOF through $18million grant.
U.S. embassy in Morocco released the photos that showed that the vehicles were Toyota Land Cruiser models. They appeared to have been delivered with containers of spare parts.
U.S. military noted that this delivery marks a very important step towards enhancing the capacity of MSOF besides enhancing the cooperation of the militaries of the two countries. The US Embassy’s Office of Security Cooperation and the Utah National Guard have established a relationship with the MSOF since training first began in 2017, with numerous combined training events occurring each year in Tifnit as well as other locations.
The MSOF has received extensive training and invaluable experience with multiple US Special Operations units. MSOF operators through these numerous and rigorous exercises have earned an outstanding reputation. Most recently, the Commander of US Special Operations Command Africa, US Air Force Brigadier General Dagvin Anderson, praised their exceptional performance during the multinational Exercise Flintlock 2020 in Mauritania.
U.S. Ambassador to Morocco David T. Fischer, during the delivery lauded the MSOF and noted that U.S. will continue partnering with Morocco in the development of the Moroccan Special Operations Company.
