The UK government is planning to ban end-to-end encrypted communication apps such as Whatsapp, Crypocat, Snapchat, and iMessage for security reasons. These encrypted communication apps utilize asymmetrical cryptography to encode messages thereby enabling individuals to establish secure communication channels that are safely shielded from government surveillance or data leakage. At the moment, the affected providers of such encryption services are strategizing on how to deal with the proposed ban.
The intention of the ban is to open all channels of online communications to government eavesdropping, surveillance and interception of data streams. Encrypted online communication has enabled terror cells to create fortified communication channels which are used to plan, strategize and execute terror attacks. Currently, the proponents of open internet and related affiliates have come out against the proposed ban.
Equally, a more robust online communication encryption suite is being upgraded by upscaling its encryption modules. Major internet companies are also creating highly potent encryption algorithms to encrypt emails further vitiating the overall effectiveness of state cyber surveillance suites.
