Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni said that his nation is willing to send troops to Mozambique to help with the fight against the Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP). This was said to Mozambican president Filipe Jacinto Nyusi who was on a three-day state visit to Uganda.
Museveni has in the past echoed that the insurgencies in the countries in the Great Lakes region pose a huge threat and require a collective response from the member states. He however said that despite that he would only send the troops to Cabo Delgado upon the resolution of the conflicts already in East Africa especially in Somalia and DR Congo.
President Museveni said Uganda is providing some logistical support to Mozambique to fight the insurgents but noted if need be, UPDF would be deployed. Uganda has 6000 troops in Somalia and at least 4000 in DRC. As it stands the East African nation has resulted to only offering logistical help to Mozambique in the meantime but with potential to evolve in to a significant deployment if ISCAP persists.
