Latest military intelligence reports from Uganda and referenced by various open sources indicate that a suspected high ranking intelligence undercover agent working for Hezbollah militant group has been tracked and arrested in Uganda.
Reports indicate that the suspected Hezbollah undercover agent who has been identified as Hussein Mahmoud Yassine is a Lebanese national and has lived and worked in Uganda since 2010.
Uganda intelligence agencies in collaboration with Israeli MOSSAD (national intelligence agency of Israel), have tracked Yassine for several months until they arrested him at Entebbe International Airport in Uganda.
Israeli MOSSAD was very instrument towards Yassine capture. MOSSAD is an Israeli intelligence unit that is solely responsible for intelligence collection. The unit is also known to conduct covert operations abroad and counter-terrorism work within and outside the state of Israel. The unit was founded in December of 1941 by former Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion.
Reports published by some Uganda media agencies indicate that Yassine was arrested while boarding a flight to Lebanon through Addis Ababa. He had arrived at Entebbe International Airport from Tanzania the same he was arrested.
MOSSAD informed the Ugandan intelligence about Yassine due to the close intelligence relationship between the two countries.
Reports further indicate that Yassine was recruited to the terrorist group by a senior Hezbollah official called Ali Wahib Hussein alias Abu Jihad.
According to MOSSAD intelligence source, Hezbollah had instructed Yassine to identify potential US and Israeli targets for terrorist attacks in Uganda besides to recruit other Lebanese nationals for Hezbollah, and to try to recruit Ugandan Muslims to act as Hezbollah intelligence agents.
The source further revealed that by the time of his arrest, Yassine had already identified bout 100 Lebanese nationals living in Uganda for potential recruitment, including some working with telecommunications provider Africell.
After reports of his arrest, the Lebanese consulate in Uganda sent a protest letter to the Ugandan Foreign Ministry. The protest letter was questioning Ugandan authorities over the matter, alleging that such arrests will dissuade Lebanese nationals from engaging business with Uganda in the future.
