Friday, June 29, 2015: A suicide bomber, Fahad Suleiman Abdulmohsen al-Gabbaa, a Saudi national, attacked worshippers at a Shiite mosque in Kuwait killing 26 worshippers
Intensified security Measures:
Following last week’s deadliest bombing attack in Kuwait in decades the Gulf Arab country among others in the region have installed additional security measures including cameras and rigorous security check points especially in the places of worship.
Kuwait’s cabinet on Monday June 29, 2015 is set to discuss new and intensive security measures that will include setting up security cameras in ‘important mosques’ throughout the country.
Other countries in the region that have beefed up security include Bahrain and Saudi Arabia that is at the forefront of a US led coalition.
The Friday attack in Kuwait has been attributed to sectarian attacks between the Sunnis and Shiite Muslims in the gulf region which has been accelerated by the conflict in Iraq and Syria.
Despite raised concerns that the rift between the Sunnis and Shiite Muslims may deepen Kuwaiti authorities have dismissed them citing a united front to fight the sectarian attacks in the Gulf country.
The attack was condemned as the Kuwaiti people showed solidarity with each other regardless of either being Sunni or Shiite.
