Russia has deployed anti-aircraft defense missile systems to Syria to protect its military equipment that is stationed in the Arab nation.
According to Russian air force chief, Colonel General Viktor Bondarev the intention of deploying missile defense systems to Syria is to protect its military equipment against potential threats citing possibilities of fighter jets being hijacked by Syrian neighboring countries and used to attack the Russian forces.
In an interview with Russian newspaper Komsomolskaya on Thursday, the head of the Russian air force said the country has sent not only its fighters, attack warplanes, helicopters and bombers but also the anti-aircraft missile defense systems to curb any possible threat.
Colonel General Viktor Bondarev added the move to send anti-aircraft missile defense systems come at a time when a Russian fighter jet passing along the Turkish border last month (October) set off an alarm indicating the plane was being targeted by an air defense system arraying fear of being targeted by the ‘enemies’.
SUMMARY
Russia began the military offensives against terrorist’s positions in Syria on September 30 upon request from Damascus government to initiate the use of military force in the Arab nation.
Syria is purged with militancy challenge from Daesh and al-Nusra Front among other terrorist organizations which has caused lives of over 250,000 people and displacing nearly half of it citizenry internally and externally.
