The United States has donated military equipment to Burkina Faso that will boost the African country’s capability to fight the growing threat caused by Islamist terror groups.
The US Embassy in Ouagadougou said equipment worth $650 000 was handed over on 30 December 2019 and included logistics vehicles and armored containers for the storage of weapons and ammunition.
In late December the embassy said it had handed equipment to Burkina Faso’s armed forces, including transport and communications hardware, which will be used by the joint G5 Sahel counter-terrorism force.
The Sahel region has been faced by a fast-evolving threat by militants and terrorist groups allied to international terror groups like al Qaeda and the Islamic State. Burkina Faso is part of the French-led G5 Sahel joint task force that has been battling Boko Haram and ISWAP offshoot in the Lake Chad region.
