Tanzania’s health docket received a major boost after Germany donated a fully furnished medical college at a handover ceremony on September 30th.
The German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group (GAFTAG) handed over the fully furnished Military College of Medical Sciences to Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) in a colorful ceremony.

Tanzania has experienced a huge shortage in health workers in the country. Germany which is Tanzania’s former colonial power has since 1994 devoted itself to improve the healthcare in the country by rehabilitating military hospitals and equipping them with state-of-the-art medical equipment.
The German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group (GAFTAG) on September 30th handed over a new fully furnished Military College of Medical Sciences to Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) in Dar es Salaam.
The college will help broaden the medical services in the country seeing as the colleges not only train military personnel but civilians interested in the medical field as well. The college will have a main campus and six other campuses distributed across the country making it the second college of its kind in Africa.
According to the German ambassador to Tanzania the equipment in the college cost 3 million Euros and is the very best in the market seeing as some colleges in Germany do not have the same. GAFTAG has also donated 3 mobile clinics that to be used in the peace keeping missions that the country is involved in.
Germany and Tanzania have a enjoyed a very cordial relationship over time with Germany aiding Tanzania especially in the medical filed at any possible opportunity.
The college comes at a time where Tanzania is home to thousands of Burundian refugees who need urgent medical attention and the expertise and equipment will facilitate in combating and preempting any health-hazard they could pose to general Tanzanian populace.
