On Sunday 17th July 2017, leading Kenya Daily, Daily Nation published a story claiming that the National Police Service (NPS)of Kenya had been forewarned by the spy agency, National Intelligence Service (NIS) of an impending terror attack in West Pokot and that police constable Abdi Hakim Maslah was the lead cell in the area.
The National Intelligence Service (NIS) has denied the report. The service found the report alarming and ill intended. “Publishing information that is not verified and which is subjective connotes intent to divide the Kenyan security service including the police, military, and intelligence service.”
The report was published a few days after a lone gunman cum rogue police officer shot dead 7 of his colleagues at the Kapenguria police station in West Pokot in the Northern-Western region of the Republic of Kenya.
Kenya has been resilient in combating terrorism in the country through robust coperation between the intelligence service, the army, and the police. The coperation involves conducting intelligence led joint operations against terrorists and their assets.
Such media reports are not only subjective but also sourced from thrid parties hence cannot be official statements or government agency position.
