Somali government forces or SNA backed by Ethiopian troops serving with African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have regained control of Gofgadud village from Al-Shabaab militants.
According to media reports, allied troops engaged in a fierce gun fight with the militant group Al-Shabaab Goofgaduud village located about 30 kilometers north of Baydabo town, before seizing the town.
Military officials confirmed that they had lost three Southwest State soldiers though they registered gains over the Al-Qaeda militants. 11 militants including a senior commander were killed during the fight.
Corresponding reports from locals say Al-Shabaab had briefly seized Goofgaduud for hours but were driven out by the Ethiopian troops backed by the Somali soldiers.
Al-Shabaab who thrive on propaganda as form as warfare strategy, through their pro-media outlets in Somalia said had recaptured the village in a heavy fighting that killed 8 pro-government soldiers, among them top commanders.
