A Handful of Somali diaspora staged protests outside the Kenyan Embassy at 45 Portland Pl, London W1B 1AS, United Kingdom. The protesters accuse the Government of Republic of Kenya of ordering air raids on terrorists outposts near civilian buildings in Gedo prefecture of Somalia. While credible intelligence reports confirms the alleged airstrikes targeted fenced compounds and not civilian dwelling places, Mogadishu’s Federal Government under Mr Mohamed Farmaajo went ahead to indict the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) of targeting civilians.
The Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia, Harakat Shabaab al Mujahideen set up a factory to manufacture and assemble improvised explosive devices (IED) and advanced vehicular bound improvised explosive devices (VBIED) in El Adde Township. An unidentified airstrike destroyed these factories successfully besides killing members of the terror group tasked with the assembly and manufacture at the particular factory.
The protesters used unsavory words against Kenya’s President in an attempt to attract an overreaction and both media and international community comments over the airstrikes. Such subversive activities are often state sponsored and undermines the efforts to restore diplomatic ties between Kenya and Somalia. Nairobi has however gotten used to President Farmaajo’s poor display of diplomatic etiquette and the continued parlaying of his ineptness to get a better grip on domestic political pressure.
