Wednesday 12th May 2016, SNA and Kenya security team held a security meeting and reportedly handed over some weaponry stolen and discovered in Bula Hawa Somalia.
Al-Shabaab allegedly stole the weapons were targeting to use them to conduct an attack in Kenya’s Mandera area.
A delegation led by Jubaland Commander DC Bula Hawa and senior security officials from lower Juba region, met their Kenyan counterparts at the Kenya-Somalia border where they handed over a variety of weaponry met to be used by Al-Shabaab to attacks Kenyans in the NEP region.
The weapons handed over included IEDs, bullets and rifles for detonation and disposal.
The Kenya team was led by Mandera County Commisioner Fredrick Shisia, OC Kenya Defence Force, OC GSU, OC RBPU, OCPD and other heads of the security departments.
Shisia thanked the Somali security delegation saying security apparatus from both countries need to collaborate more in terms of intelligence sharing to defeat the common enemy; the Al-Shabaab.
Mandera County in the past has suffered a spate of terror attacks. However, security patrols, additional deployments in NEP region in recent months have scaled-up security.
The Somali officials asked Kenya for more support since terror is a common enemy.
