Report by Somalia National News Agency (SONNA) indicate that Somali National Army backed by African Union Peacekeeping troops continues to make gains against Al-Shabaab Islamist group in the recently launched joint military operations near the strategic town of Wajid in Bakool region southwest Somalia.
Corresponding report by Somali government Army Commander of Division8, Ali Mohamed said the operations were aimed at liberating and opening key routes leading to Hudur town, the capital of Bakool region where the Al-Shabaab militants cut from the rest of other towns.
SNA is backed by AMISOM’s Ethiopian contingent in the operations started in the beginning of the week. Al-Shabaab fighters have been captured and materials used to make bombs, small arms, and militant’s flags recovered.
The strategic Wajid town is under southwest State in Somalia and harbors elements of Al-Shabaab militants and the operations expected to continue flushing the out.
