The Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab continues to record attacks in Somalia, exploiting the current Coronavirus crisis that is steadily soaring.
On Monday, 27th April 2020, two Al-Shabaab militants linked to latest assassinations in the capital Mogadishu were gunned down, further exposing the unending threats from the militants.
On Sunday, 26th April 2020, reports indicate that the militants had assassinated two civilians within the capital before fleeing from the scene.
In an encounter with security forces, the two terror operatives were killed gunned down as they tried to engage the police in a gunfight. Authorities in Wadajir district of Mogadishu hailed police saying the two were notorious operatives linked with a number of assassinations within the capital.
Al-Shabaab are involved in targeted assassinations on security officials and also civilians. In the capital, a number of businessmen have been targeted by Al-Shabaab in an effort to instill fear on others and subsequently make their financial contributions to the militant group. Other assassinations are done in order to instill fear to the civilians not to collaborate with security assets.
The incident comes barely a day after the Al-Shabaab took responsibility for unprecedented attacks on the heavily fortified Halane Base Camp within the vicinity of Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the mortar attack that left at least four civilians dead.
