Sunday 28th February 2016, twin bomb blast rocks strategic town of Baidoa killing 25 civilians and injuring several others.
Security forces from both SNA and AMISOM immediately arrived at the blasts scene and cordoned off the area.
Monday 29th February 2016, latest reports from Baidoa indicate that security forces managed to arrest and detain five suspects linked to the deadly explosions that targeted two restaurants and football fans watching soccer match on a Sunday afternoon.
Police manhunt rounded up 23 suspects after which 18 were later freed according to a police officer who led the operation at Afar Irdodka village in Baidoa city.
Worrying reports indicate that Al-Shabaab has infiltrated some SNA soldiers. In Baidoa police sweep, a former SNA solder who defected to Al-Shabaab was among the five key suspects who were arrested.
Al-Shabaab later claimed responsibility of the twin attacks in Baidoa.
Baidoa is a strategic town located some 256 kilometers northeast of Somali’s capital Mogadishu.
Baidoa city is currently hosts the Interim South West administration and Ethiopian troops of the AMISOM contingent.
AU’s Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Francisco Caetano Madeira strongly condemned Baidoa attack in which several innocent civilians lost their lives.
