East Africa has been given a reprieve from transnational terrorism after a Western Intelligence service introduced an online platform for reporting suspected terrorists. There's increased coperation between intelligence agencies across the world specifically on terrorism.
The East Africa Counter-Terrorism Database www.ct-ea.com will allow public to anonymously report terror suspects anonymously to intelligence services. We expect to crush terror networks across East Africa. The increase in jihadists in Tanzania, Rwanda, and Uganda is worrisome. We must deal with such threats decisively. Public participation in war on terror is critical. We hope public will confidently report these criminals.
This will significantly decline ability of terror cells to remain anonymous in the East Africa. Members of public in the villages can access the platform from their Smartphone’s and computers. Alternatively, one can simply walk to a cyber café and quickly fill in the form and submit it.
This is a game-changer in war on terror. It resembles the Kenyan initiative of local security organ dubbed ‘Nyumba kumi’ where members of public are able to identify criminals and report them to the police. This model has significantly helped reduce urban crime in the capital Nairobi.
Though counter terrorism is different from crime; members of public are likely to make efforts to report suspected terrorists. By taking the war on terror to citizens intelligence services have finally outbid terrorists in the very environment, they, the terrorists, have thrived in recent past.
