Iraq’s Kurdish Peshmerga forces in a massive military offensive against the Islamic State Takfiri terrorists managed to liberate nine villages in northern Iraq and inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorist group.
On Wednesday 26th August 2015, Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) through a statement said that Peshmerga fighters launched their offensive at dawn with about 2,000 soldiers targeting the villages held by the militants on the south of the oil-rich city of Kirkuk.
ASSESSMENT
According to a brief reported on Associated Press, the assault was carried on the Daquq and Tuz Khormato frontlines with heavy artillery which included several tanks. At least 25 militants were slain during the dawn raids.
Kurdistan has now held a semi-autonomous government since the end of the 1991 Persian Gulf War.
Its Peshmerga forces have been combating Islamic State Takfiri terrorists since the terror group launched its deadly campaigns in June 2014.
FORECAST
KRG operations are aimed to cleanse the rest of the militant-held areas from Islamic State Takfiris in Iraq’s Kurdistan region.
The operations expected to intensify to make sure the militant do not conduct surprise retaliatory attacks.
The Islamic State Takfiris an offshoot of Al Qaeda have gained notoriety for their barbarity, heinous atrocities, and sacrilegious acts witnessed by decapitations and crucifixions.
The Islamic State militants have been committing war crimes in areas they control in Syria, Iraq, and Libya.
