Tullow Oil has found oil in Kenya but are yet to confirm the commercial viability of the commodity, the government of Kenya has told away in a televised address to the republic.
According to President Kibaki, oil has been found in Kenya’s Turkana County in Ngamia 1 well 20 meters deep making it a major break through in the East Africa powerhouse.
Tullow Oil discovered high quality oil in Kenya, according to the company’s exploration chief.
The oil discovered in northwest Kenya is high-quality and that it will yield more gasoline and diesel per barrel than some other crude discoveries in Africa, Tullow Oil announced.
Ngamia 1 in Turkana borders Uganda and Sudan, both countries have oil.
However, intelligence reports on the oil find in Kenya show that the oil discovered in Kenya could be vast and bigger than that found in Uganda by the same company.
Tullow Oil operates Kenya’s block 10BB with a 50 percent working interest and Canada’s Africa Oil Corp., which holds the remaining stake.
Africa Oil’s shares also rose after the announcement.
Tullow had been drilling the Ngamia-1 well on block 10BB, in the Lokichar basin in Turkana County and reached a depth of 1,041 metres at the time of
