North Korea at about 10:17am (01:17 GMT) on Tuesday from the vicinity of Sinpo fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile into waters off the coast of Japan as per South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Pyongyang weapon test comes weeks after South Korea unveiled its own such weapon. Pyongyang unveiled the “new” type of submarine-launched missile in January and describing it as “the world’s most powerful weapon”.
In recent weeks, North Korea has been conducting a number of tests of which it claims to be long-range cruise missiles and hypersonic, and anti-aircraft weapons.
The United Nations has severally prohibited North Korea from test firing ballistic missiles as well as other nuclear weapons, but instead Pyongyang has stepped up weapons testing – a move Kim has said is necessary for his country’s “self-defense”.
A number of Pyongyang’s weapon tests violate international sanctions and comes as South Korea, Japan and US intelligence chiefs reportedly meet in Seoul to discuss North Korea.
Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida underscored of the two ballistic missiles fired, calling the launches were “very regrettable”.
