The Nigerian Army on Monday handed over 150 surrendered Boko Haram extremists to Borno authorities for rehabilitation and reintegration into the society.
According to Major General Bamidele Shafa, the Coordinator, Operation Safe Corridor, the extremists who surrendered to the army were subsequently to handed to the Bulunkutu Rehabilitation Center, Maiduguri.
Shafa disclosed that the 151 male surrendered comprised of 132 adults and 19 minors. He also noted that they had already completed 52 weeks of deradicalisation process at the army’s centre in Gombe State.
He said that the clients were exposed to formal literacy classes, skills acquisition and Islamic Religious Knowledge as well as drug and psycho-therapists during their training.
Shafa explained that the Operation Safe Corridor was designed to encourage Boko Haram adherents to surrender, undergo deradicalisation and rehabilitation programme, to enable them to rejoin the society.
