Security agencies in Morocco have arrested members of a terror cell operating in the country. According to the country’s minister for interior, the arrested members belonged to a cell believed to have direct links with the Islamic State.
In a statement, the ministry said 13 suspects had been arrested for links to the Daesh terrorist group. The suspects, aged between 22 and 44, had been active in the cities of Casablanca, Salé, and Mohammedia as well as El Kelaa des Sraghna town.
Intelligence, as well as preliminary investigations, revealed that the suspects were “inciting support for Daesh and plotting to carry out terrorist attacks in the country. According to latest official figures released late 2018, Morocco has dismantled more than 180 terror cells since 2002. The country remains on high alert seeing as its proximity to the northern and Western Africa countries that have active jihadi presence makes the country susceptible to attack by terror organizations such as ISIS and Al Qaeda.
