Officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Borno State have arrested a major Boko Haram’s Improvised Explosive Device logistics supplier in Maiduguri. The suspected bomb material supplier has been identified as 24-year-old Aliyu Muhammed.
Mr. Muhammed was arrested following intelligence that he was en route to supply bomb-making material to Boko Haram who have in the past few weeks stepped up their attacks killing indiscriminately. The NSCDC commandant said Mohammed and his colleagues have played different roles in masterminding various attacks, in worship centers, market places in Maiduguri and environs.
The preliminary investigation conducted by NSCDC revealed that the suspect supplied mobile phones battery, wrist watches as well as laptop computers used for setting off IEDs designed to inflict massive casualties.
It has further been revealed that despite being a supplier he has conducted numerous attacks as well as acted as a financial point-person for Boko Haram. His arrest is vital in nabbing other suppliers and financial facilitators for the Boko Haram. In the past week, Boko Haram has attacked military base killing at least a dozen soldiers and other still missing. Thus, Muhammed will serve as a source of information of likely targets by the Boko Haram in Maiduguri.
