Police reports from Mombasa indicate that Kenya’s anti-terrorism police are investigation a suspected Al-Shabaab recruiter in the coastal town of Mombasa.
Arrested Wednesday 18th May 2016 last week, Rashid Juma Mwakimako alongside four other Kenyan youths in Wajir town in northeastern Kenya, were in a commuter bus en-route to Somalia.
Intelligence report indicated that Mwakimako was recruited by a wanted terror suspect Ramadan Kufungwa behind gun and grenade attacks at the coastal region.
Ramadan Kufungwa is being sought alongside his wife Rukia Mbarak Faraj, for their involvement of smuggling of weapons and explosives from Somalia as part of preparations for a terrorist attack on Kenyan soil.
Police have offered a 20,000 U.S. dollar reward for information that could lead to his arrest.
Mwakimako reportedly was heading to Somalia to join Al-Shabaab before returning to recruit more youth in Mombasa.
According Regional police boss Francis Wanjohi, Al-Shabaab continues to radicalize youths unfortunately with learned youth falling prey into the jihadist traps and meeting their deaths.
However, Wanjohi reiterated of scale-up security at the coastal region.
