Kenyan government through the Ministry of Interior has announced the repatriation of all refugees to their countries of origin and to subsequently close the refugee camps.
Currently Kenya has been over-burden hosting over 600,000 refugees mainly in Dadaab and Kakuma camps. Most of these refugees have been in Kenya for almost a quarter a century.
Kenya repatriation of refugees to their countries of origin is justified citing the government financial and security constraints.
Dadaab refugees camps in several occasion has been fertile safe haven for Islamist terrorists allied to Al-Shabaab who have conduct attacks in Northeastern Kenya thus causing immense security challenges.
Most of the refugees in the Kenya are from countries such as Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Rwanda, DRC, Ethiopia among others.
Kenya government has called on international community to support the initiative of closing camps so that the refugees’ transportation can be done expeditiously with minimal pain and sufferings
