Republic of Kenya has recently witnesses a series of would be terror attacks mostly along the porous Kenya-Somali border. Though these attacks have been foiled and neutralized, the country Security is on high alert as this shows that there quite a number of active terrorist cells with intent to commit attacks.
The country’s intelligence service (The National Intelligence Service NIS) has advised the country to heighten the security along the Kenya-Somali border.
Kenya Defence Forces deployed along the border backed by Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) to adequately beef up security in major towns in northeastern Kenya to preempt any possible threat. Garissa, Mandera, Wajir and Lamu towns remains key prone Al Shabaab targets.
Situation Analysis and Assessment
With series of these recent foiled attacks, their sequence and occurrence is alarming. This shows that country can suffer another attack if proper security measures are not strictly adhered to. Active terrorist cells also imminent in collaboration local sympathizer scouts who tip the militants on soft entry points and possible routes to take.
Intelligence reports believe quite a number of Al Shabaab have crossed into Kenya from Kulbiyow Somalia and have been hiding in the vast Boni forest. The thick forest runs through Lamu and Garissa Counties.

Mohamed Kuno alias Gamadhere who was the lead mastermind of the Garissa University attack that claimed lives of 148 students could be planning another terrorism attack together with Mohamed Bilal another terrorist suspect on National Intelligence Service watch list. Both are Al Shabaab terrorists who hails from southern part of Garissa.
The Kenya Government Joint Security Agencies to work around the clock to preempt any possible threat.
Members of the public are also advised to remain vigilant, report any suspicious people to nearby police stations and keep the country safe.
