International community has hailed breakthrough agreement in Jubbaland Somalia.
The United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the United States of America (USA), the United Kingdom (UK), Sweden and Italy have welcomed the all-inclusive agreement on peace and reconciliation among the peoples of Jubbaland that announced in a ceremony held in Kismaayo on March 25, 2016.
The agreement end talks between Jubbaland leaders lead Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam and Marehan stakeholders.
The agreement addresses a number of contentious issues touching on the power-sharing aimed at strengthening Jubbaland state.
The Accord paves way to an all-inclusive administration that represents Jubbaland communities to the entirety.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
“This historic agreement is the outcome of an intra-Somali process that will bolster unity in the fight against al-Shabaab extremists in Jubbaland,” said the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, Michael Keating.
“We commend President Madobe for his courage and resolve in pursuing this important agreement.” He added.
International community also lauded the Federal Government and people of Jubbaland for their strong commitment to peace and reconciliation.
The Jubbaland accord should serve as an example to the rest of Somalia in settling long standing disputes between different communities and administrations.
International partners also acknowledged IGAD for working closely with both sides during the reconciliation talks.
