Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have agreed to establish cooperation in the defense and military sector. The agreement is projected to include Kinshasa’s purchase of Indonesian-made defense equipment and the acceptance of Congolese cadets at the Indonesian military academy.
The agreement was sealed by the signing of a letter of intent between the Defense Ministers of both countries. Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto expressed his excitement about the collaboration and welcomed DRC’s interest in Indonesian defense products. Meanwhile, DRC’s Defense Minister, Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo, thanked Indonesia for its warm welcome and expressed his country’s interest in sending cadets and special forces to study and train in Indonesia.

Military sources have revealed that some of the equipment include Indonesian-made Aircraft and Tanks. The Indonesian side said that Kinshasa expressed interest in their planes which include the CN235, and N-219 which is a new aircraft, as well as Indonesian-made medium tanks.
The cooperation is a significant step in expanding Indonesia’s defense industry and establishing partnerships with other nations. It also reflects Indonesia’s efforts to increase its presence in Africa, as Congo is the second African country after Egypt to engage in such collaboration with Indonesia.
This partnership may lead to more trade and investment opportunities between the two nations, as well as strengthening diplomatic relations. It also demonstrates Indonesia’s readiness to share its knowledge and expertise in the defense and military industries, which may benefit Congo’s defense capabilities.
