The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has pledged its supports to the Federal Government Of Somalia in her fight against al-Qaeda affiliate in the country, Al Shabaab. The pledge comes after several bomb attacks by the groups in various parts of the country in July claimed dozens of lives in a new wave of attacks by the combatants.
East African 8-member bloc has condemned the suicide attack that took place in the offices of Mogadishu’s mayor on Wednesday which left seven government officials dead with the mayor among those injured. Al-Shabaab has since claimed responsibility for the attack saying their target was the UN envoy who they believed was inside the mayor’s compound at the time of the attack.
IGAD has continuously supported Somalia in the integration of the states, military capacity building, infrastructure and the fight against al Shabaab in a bid to ensure that the Horn of Africa nation stabilizes and defeats the various Jihadists groups active.
