Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet confirmed that the Two Administration police corporals who were held hostage by the Somali based Al Shabaab since 2013 have been rescued unharmed.
The two officers, Fredrick Chirchir and Joseph Wambugu were abducted by Al Shabaab militia from Dadaab refugee camp. The officers were unharmed during the duration of their abduction in Somalia.
Debriefing
IG Boinett said the officers during their debriefing revealed how the militia moved them from one terror camp to another as measure against any rescue attempts by the Kenyan authorities.
During their captivity, the militia abductors questioned the officers to get any intelligence on the preparedness, weaponry capability and tactics the Kenyan security forces had put in place to deal the Al Shabaab.
The officers to have since undergone thorough physical and psychological checkups and are in good health though traumatized from Al Shabaab ordeal.
Summary & Forecast
The Government to employ on counter measures on the Al Shabaab. Mine as much human intelligence from locals in areas believed to have active cells such as North Eastern region, Nairobi and the broader Coastal regions.
IG Boinett appeal for property owners with highrise rental buildings to heighten security checks for all person and vehicles accessing their respective premises.
Also security guards in various installations to change on their routine checks, improving of security gadgets also highly recommended.
Improve on security on public service vehicles. Proper security screening on passengers to be mandatory as intelligence has arrayed fears that PSVs may be the Al Shabaab next target.
Security to be intensified in terror prone areas; IG confirmed more than 300 police officers (for each county) have been deployed in Wajir, Garissa and Mandera to intensify on security patrols.
