March 21, 2016: Yemeni officials have let on that the Shiite rebels and the internationally recognized government had agreed to commence a one to two week ceasefire ahead of the next round of negotiations.
Houthi Rebels, Yemeni government officials and the UN envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed held extensive talks on Sunday March 20th with the talks slated to resume next month.
According to preliminary talks, the Houthi rebels have agreed to adhere to the UN stipulated resolution that requires them to hand over their weapons and withdraw from all the territory they had seized including the capital Sanaa.
Enthusiasm has been expressed in the success of this ceasefire seeing as all others have been violated instantaneously with either side accusing the other of immediate violations. The likelihood of the current on working is the desire for Yemen to rebuild itself as it helps reconstruct all the damage caused by the war as well as better prepare to fight Islamist in the region who sought refuge and haven in Yemen.
