The US has approved the sale of Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missiles to Germany in a deal that was orchestrated through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency. The sale is estimated to be approximately $122.86 million.
The missiles to be delivered to the government of Germany will include up to 91 AGM-88E Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile (AARGM) Tactical Missiles and up to 8 GM-88E AARGM Captive Air Training Missiles (CATM).
The purchase by Germany is geared at upgrading its 1988 purchased AGM-88B air-to-surface missiles that will be manufactured using both old and new acquired sections to improve their capabilities.
The AGM-88E is a medium-range air-to-ground missile developed for the U.S. and Italy. Its primary role is to target enemy defenses and shut down electronics transmissions from land- or sea-based radar systems with minimal operator input, providing a countermeasure to radar directed surface-to-air missiles, and air defense artillery systems.
