Kenya has a new director of intelligence, this is after parliament unanimously passed the nomination of Major General Phillip Wachira Kameru.
The General who has 3 degrees in security related studies has a very admirable background in Military Intelligence.
Much of the success in Somalia is attributed to his skills and leadership in military intelligence.
Battle plans, preemptive attacks, strategic deployment, and surveillance led by the Kenya Military Intelligence has helped AMISOM troops make very significant gains in Somalia.
General Kameru is tasked with drawing out a new face for the disgraced Intelligence Service known as the National Intelligence Service.
NIS has been faced with intelligence failure for the past several years. There are numerous problems besides intelligence failure such as analysis and production of intelligence, delivery of the product, and orchestrating events that can factor preemption of threats on national security.
Revamping the intelligence organization to become effective and credible will be a task that will involve bringing in new faces who may come from both the military and even the private sector.
NIS has not been able to embrace Intelligence Sharing and outsourcing of covert operations to infiltrate enemies and gather intelligence to preempt or stymie enemy projects against the national security of Kenya.
General Wachira Kameru will be tasked with creating such strategies and providing leadership to facilitate such operations to increase the capacity and effectiveness of the National Intelligence Service.
General Kameru has been serving as the director of Military Intelligence at Kenya Defense Forces.
