The FBI reaffirmed a $5 million reward for information that will lead to the capture of Jehad Serwan Mostafa on their Most Wanted Terrorist List. The federal officials described him as an extremely dangerous terrorist leader. FBI leaders worry that Mostafa’s U.S. roots could pose a danger to Americans at home or internationally because of a recent call inside Al-Shabaab for attacks on U.S. citizens and its allies.
According to the agency, Jehad Serwan Mostafa, 37, is a U.S citizen. The FBI called Mostafa the “highest ranking American fighting overseas.”
The FBI highlights that Mostafa grew up in San Diego and, at some point, moved to Somalia and became a member of the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab terrorist organization.
Al-Shabaab has committed several bombings and attacks in the Horn of Africa, killing hundreds.
The FBI’s Rewards for Justice Program is offering a $5 million reward for information leading to Mostafa’s arrest or conviction in any country.
Mostafa is described as six feet, one inch tall, weighing approximately 170 pounds with blue eyes and a large scar on his right hand. He is also left-handed, according to FBI.
Mostafa is charged with the following:
- Conspiracy to provide material to terrorists
- Conspiracy to provide material support to a terrorist organization
- Providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization
Mostafa is also known as Ahmed Gurey and Anwar. He was originally charged in 2009 on similar counts. FBI believe he continued providing support to Al-Shabaab terrorists until February of 2017.
For about a decade, Mostafa has held positions within Al-Shabaab’s explosives department, media wing, and training camps. FBI believes he will continue to play an active role in terrorist acts that Al-Shabaab commits until he is stopped.
