The European Union through its commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Christos Styllandies during his visit to Kenya’s Dadaab Refugee Camp announced a $83.9 million pledge to be used to improve the lives and meet urgent basic needs of the displaced people in the Horn of Africa.
$18.5 million will aid in providing food, water, healthcare, improved sanitation facilities, education and shelter for the vulnerable minorities in Kenya, $31.6 million will be set aside for the war-torn Somalia, $27.2 million for Ethiopia and the remainder will be used in Uganda, Djibouti and emergency disaster mitigation kitty.
Kenya and Ethiopia have over served as home to thousands of war refugees from Sudan, South Sudan and Somalia which have been rocked by war and untold atrocities.
The recent influx of refugees from Somalia has stretched the resources available in the camps making it an agenda for the Kenyan government to defeat the al Shabaab militants and repatriate the refugees back.

Kenya is home to the largest refugee camp in the word that has been in existence for over two decade and in the past months has been working on repatriating the Somali refugees back to the secure areas of Somali at the same time intensifying the war against al Shabaab.
