The embattled Boko Haram ‘leader’ Abubakar Shekau has issued attack threats to the government of President Muhammadu Buhari and his military commanders following recent announcement of his replacement at the helm of the militant group.
In the new video released on Monday 8th August 2016, a hooded Boko Haram militant warns Nigerian government not to celebrate the recent split in the movement and ties to Daesh.
The video which is the first to be released by Boko Haram since the announcement of replacement of Abubakar Shekau with Abu Musab al-Barnawi, is seen with Boko Haram fighters flanked with weapons assuring their loyalty to Daesh Daesh chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi though rebellious of the recently named West African leader of the group, Abu Musab al-Barnawi.
The speaker in the video said the group will not accept Barnawi to take up Boko Haram leadership until Daesh leadership announces the same directly.
The Monday’s video also showed the reclusive leader, Shekau repeat his loyalty to Baghdadi but categorically rejecting allegiance or truce to Daesh-nominated leader Barnawi, who is also the son of the late Boko Haram chief Muhammad Yusuf.
If the new video release is anything to go by, Boko Haram insurgent group era under Shakeu is near end, rift within the jihadist group is imminent with parent ISIS and its leadership announcement without doubt preferring Barnawi over Shakeu to take-up Boko Haram leadership.
