
Egyptian forces killed 13 militants during raids targeting militant’s hideouts in the country’s troubled North Sinai province on Monday.
According to the military spokesman, the raid against the militants was a success. Assortment of weapons, ammunitions and landmines were recovered at the site.
Three cars and two motorcycles belonging to the militants were destroyed in the attack according to the military source.
The forces also found 100 barrels full of explosive materials and five bags of ammonium nitrate key materials used in assembly of IEDs.
Egypt has been grappling with a growing number of anti-government attacks since the military intervention ousted former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 and later blacklisted his Muslim Brotherhood group as a terrorist organization.
Terror attacks in Egypt have targeted policemen and soldiers nationwide prompting the army to launch a substantial anti-terror campaigns in Sinai, where ‘Sinai State’ an offshoot of the Middle East-base Islamic State (IS) militant group has established foothold.
