Colonel Mamadou Ndala, a Congolese army commander recently tasked in leading a military offensive against M23 Rebels was killed along his two bodyguards.
The army colonel was in a convoy when Ugandan ADF-Nalu Islamists, who have ties with the Somali Islamist terror group Al-Shabaab ambushed the convoy.
Intelligence sources report that Colonel Mamadou Ndala was head of DRC military operations in the north and has been successful in his operations.
The Thursday ambush occurred in Beni when the military commander was leading troops for an operation.
DR Congo commissioned military operations on bases and camps used by the Ugandan Islamists group ADF-Nalu in the north of Kivu.
Colonel Ndala was in the lead car in the convoy and his vehicle was hit by a rocket.
The convoy came under intense machine gun fire for some minutes leaving the colonel and his two bodygaurds dead and eight soldiers badly wounded.
