AU Special Representative for Somalia Ambassador Madeira Francisco reiterated the urgent need to de-radicalize Somali youths and to protect them from the sting of Al-Shabaab terrorists.
Ambassador Madeira was speaking during the recent media engagement in Mogadishu.
Madeira observed expansive strides have been made in against the Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab noting more need to be done to avoid the reverse of these gains.
Madeira stressed the need to concentrate on de-radicalization, youth sensitization to avoid them being curtailed by these murderers.
Youths need to be educated that joining these people is not a good idea and that Al-Shabaab stand for evil.
According to Ambassador Madeira, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) will try its best to provide education, shelter and food to the youth to prevent them from being recruited into Al Shabaab captivity.
Joint efforts with international community to bar supply of arms to terrorists and also to cut their sources of funding is making a significant contribution to defeating terrorism.
“We are working with the international community, to reduce the number of weapons that come, for instance, from Yemen into Somalia,” he added.
In March 2016, in separate incidents, French and Australian navies operations seized Somali-bound ships carrying large hauls of weapons believed to consignments for Al Shabaab.
