A powerful car bomb in Mogadishu has killed a Somali member of parliament mid morning Monday, intelligence sources confirm.
A report by Strategic Intelligence resources in Somalia shows that the bomb was attached to the vehicle and remotely detonated.
The bomb exploded in a street along Mogadishu’s Hamarweyne district as the member of parliament was being driven to the presidential palace.
Strategic Intelligence confirms that the explosive detonated before it reached the target.
There is a possibility the vehicle was laced with the bomb without the knowledge of Isaak Mohamed Riino, the killed member of parliament.
Intelligence sources show that the vehicle was blown and wrecked completely.
There were four other occupants but they survived with serious injuries.
All occupants including the dead parliamentarian were trying to escape the vehicle when the bomb exploded.
There was a tip off that the bomb was attached to the car when it parked on a lot in the district and the MP Isaak Mohamed Riino tried to get out of the vehicle but died.
Those operating the bomb as such may have been very close to the bomb to both observe the behavior of the occupants and detonate the bomb.
