Bangladeshi Hostages in Libyan Oil Field Attack Released By Islamic State

Bangladeshi Hostages in Libyan Oil Field Attack Released By Islamic State

Two Bangladeshi citizens who were kidnapped from the al-Ghani oil field in Libya were released on Tuesday. The two were among a group of foreign workers that were taken hostage by the Islamic State militias after an attack on the oil field.

Foreign workers have increasingly become a target in the chaos that followed the ousting of Muammar Gaddafi four years ago.

Helal Uddin and Mohammed Anowar Hossain are staying at Sirte Hospital after being released for observation.

United Nations-led negotiations have received backing from governments from the west as the continued crisis in Libya which is a sea across from Europe is creating a sanctuary for the Islamist Militants.

The militants who have pledged allegiance to Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) have been blamed for the recent major attack on foreigners.

Talks to form a unified central singular government in Libya headed by the U.N. are ongoing in the neighboring Morocco with an aim of creating a lasting ceasefire between the two rival governments.
