The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) is reviewing its information and communications technology (ICT) capabilities to enhance effectiveness. A team comprised of 39 ICT service executives took part in a technical and asset review of the organization’s infrastructure to evaluate its effectiveness.
Major General Charles Tai Gituai, AU Mission’s Deputy Force Commander In-charge of Operations and Planning said that while highlighting the importance of information and communication technology, in the success of any peacekeeping mission, he called for more robust methods of communications, that adequately addresses the needs of the force and strengthens its effectiveness in the fight against terrorists.
The workshop hopes to secure the operation’s capability by ensuring that the equipment is not compromised and serving the desired functions. The ICT capabilities of the mission are very important seeing as the equipment are used for communication and preempting attacks from the al Shabaab and as such averting any loss of life due to ineffectiveness among the peacekeepers.
