The Al-Qaida-linked extremist group, Al-Shabaab have for the first time released a video of its leader Ahmed Omar Abu Ubaidah, firing warning to the United States and her associates in Somalia.
The 52-minute video released by al-Qaeda affiliated media highlights the atrocities allegedly committed by the US and other allied forces in Somalia. Airstrikes targeting civilians, alleged rape and destruction of infrastructure in Somalia are among grievances put forth by the terrorist group.
For almost 15 minutes, Al-Shabaab leader, who took over from Ahmed Godane, is partially seen preparing the militants for an onslaught against American soldiers.
Ubaidah is one of the most wanted terrorists in the world. The U.S. State Department announced a $6 million reward for information on his whereabouts in November 2015. The Somali intelligence service added a reward of $2 million.
The latest release which shows the preparation before the al Shabaab attacked the Ballidogle military base is a clear indication of a very well-planned media strategy that is geared at exaggerating the might and capabilities of the terror organization. More often than not terrorist organizations use such videos to mobilize their fighters, recruit new members as well as boost the morale of fighters on the ground.
