Al-Shabaab has suffered a major setback in Kenya after divisions and subsequent leadership squabbles led to infighting and splintering of local jihadists into two rival groups.
Recent deaths of 2 imams in Mombasa and 2 young men of Muslim faith in Majengo area in Nairobi, an area under police and counter-terrorism watch, were caused by infighting in the Kenyan wing of Al-Shabaab Al-Hijra.
Intelligence reports show young Al-Shabaab leaders in Kenya are involved in the assassination of old clerics who constantly restrain and stop terror attacks.
Counter Terrorism Intelligence services in Kenya report that the deaths of 2 middle aged sheikhs and two old Imams had the insignia of in-fighting in Al-Shabaab leadership.
The infighting has been traced back to Nairobi Majengo area.
A Mombasa radical Cleric ordered the killing of middle aged Al-Shabaab logistics officer and a radical Islam preacher actively involved in the planning of a terror attack targeting a girls high school in Kilifi County.
The terrorist was living in Majengo area of Nairobi and used to pray at Pumwani Riyadha Mosque.
The death of the young terrorist was quickly revenged by the youthful terrorists who killed the Sheikh in Mombasa mid-January 2015.
The older generation though radicalized has vowed to tame the young and violent youths who are waiting for any opportunity to attack targets they deem worthy to justify jihad.
On the other hand the youths have vowed to get rid of the old sheikhs and implement the Al-Shabaab agenda.
These losses are significant to the war on terror and could open a new front to assault the terrorists.
