The Somali based Islamist group Al-Shabaab continues to suffer huge blow as hundreds of Kenyan recruits from Lamu returns home after quitting from the group.
Youths who join Al-Shabaab are usually promised a good lifestyle and good pay but once they cross over to Somalia, things turns against them in the terror camps.
According to Lamu County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri, hundreds of youths who had joined Al-Shabaab have decamped the militant group and secretly returned to Lamu.
The Commissioner has called for Kenyan security agencies (Military, Police Service, and Intelligence Service) to work closely in making sure these returnees are enlisted into the rehabilitation centres.
Speaking to the media in Lamu on Monday, Mr Kanyiri noted of family members unwilling to surrender the returnees to relevant government authorities despite the government amnesty and rehabilitation efforts.
Mr Kanyiri appealed to the returnees to surrender themselves in the various security offices in the region for proper auditing.
Hundreds youth returnees have come back to Lamu after they were unable to cope with the militant life and brainwashing.
The County Commissioner implored them to surrender themselves noting that failure to do so will result to them being hunted down for prosecution.
He also called on more youths to take advantage of the amnesty that was amnesty announced by the national government two years ago saying it was still open.
