Somali militant group Al-Shabaab executed a Somali National Army (SNA) soldier captured more than five months ago.
Abrahim Adan Qassim, 37 who was convicted of being a member of Southwest state forces was tied to a pole and shot dead by a firing squad in an open square in Jilib town in Middle Jubba region.
The public execution took place in Labaatan Jirow village after Abrahim was found guilty of being a soldier of a government by an Al-Shabaab court in Baay region. Abrahim was abducted by Al-Shabaab fighters from a village near Baidoa town in November last year.
The group often kills those perceived as betrayers in public to discourage residents from working for the government or the AMISOM forces.
Al Shabaab has been fighting for years to drive out African Union peacekeepers, topple the central government and impose its own harsh interpretation of Sharia (Islamic law) in country.
